Our Family
Our Story
We took over Akashic Tiles in 2018 from two of our closest friends as they began a new chapter, relocating back to the United States. What started as a continuation of their journey soon became a deeply personal creative path of our own.
My background is in fine art, where I spent years sculpting textured wall pieces for interior designers, long before textured surfaces became a wider trend. That early exploration shaped a lasting connection to texture, pattern, and handmade ceramic tiles, and the sensory experience they bring into a space.
At the heart of everything we create is a love for how a surface feels, how it catches the light, and how pattern can shift and evolve depending on how it’s seen. Our handmade ceramic tiles are designed as more than just a finish, they become part of the atmosphere of a space. Each piece is part of an ongoing evolution, an expression of our lives, our experiences, and the rhythm of what inspires us.
We live where we work and love what we do. Our studio is based in Knysna, a small coastal, forested town in South Africa. From here, we create handmade ceramic tiles in South Africa, staying connected to nature, to family, and to a slower, more intentional way of living, while sending our work out from this quiet corner of the world to projects across the globe.
Inspiration is everywhere. From nature to architecture, from quiet moments to bold expressions of colour, we are constantly drawn to the emotion that a surface can evoke. We have a deep love for colour, and for the way carefully balanced tones can transform a space, bringing both harmony and contrast.
We are always deeply grateful for every project we are invited into. Each collaboration is an opportunity to create something meaningful, whether for feature walls, interior spaces, or architectural surfaces. This sense of connection is what continues to shape our work.
We believe that it’s not just what you do, but how you live each day and each moment with the people around you. That belief sits at the heart of everything we create.
